This is a remakable photo of the newsboys of the day because in most other photographs they are poorly dressed and some are as young as 7 years old.
Child labor was an issue that was ignored and some boys and girls were forced to work to earn money. They often missed school and the household priority was not education but earning money as soon as possible.
If you look at the 1911 pictures of John Sims and Fernance Sylvia you can get a better idea of what the newsboys had to go through.
