Joseph Richardson Rumrill was the son of Joseph Richardson Rumrill Sr. & Mehitable Carver.
He was born in Nov 1829 in New Bedford, and he died 23 Feb 1899 in New Bedford.
He married Caroline Frances Foster 16 May 1855 in New Bedford.
Joseph enlisted in as a private in Company C, 3rd Cavalry Regiment of Massachusetts on 4 Sep 1862.

He was discharged 20 May 1865 at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas.
He was a painter in private life.
Caroline Frances Foster was the daughter of James Foster & Susan Bunker.
She was also the granddaughter of the whaling ship captain Ebenezer Lathrop Foster.
She was born 20 Sep 1837 in New Bedford, and she died 26 Jun 1906 also in New Bedford.
She and her husband’s family are buried in Oak Grove Cemetery, in New Bedford, in Lot 54, Section Q.
Joseph & Caroline had two sons: Joseph Adams Rumrill & Herbert Elmer Rumrill.
