1973 Centre Street
New Bedford, Ma.
Centre Street in New Bedford from the earliest days was a busy part of the commercial district.
Older pictures of Centre street show that it never was a delightful place but one of hard scrabble business and lacked any kind of beauty that the residential areas of the city had.
After the decline in whaling and the shift in that area to other businesses, Centre street's business and appearance declined until the great renovation on the downtown area took place.
Today the famed Arthur Moniz Gallery is located there and the buildings are all beautifully renovated in keeping with the best of the historic past of the area. There is a Festival in New Bedford held once a year that includes the area encompassing Centre Street.
