The Union Street Railway served New Bedford and the outlying communities for many years unti buses came to replace them.
Many older residents fondly remember riding the trolleys.
In this picture (enlarge it for detail) you can see that the cars are at Fort Rodman ( Fort Taber) near the beaches and Acushnet Park in the South End, the return or destination is Acushnet Park in the south end for trolley #283 and Lunds Corner for trolley # 601
In the photo taken June 16, 1940 the grass is green and you can almost smell the summer air with a wiff of the salty sea nearby.
